Regional Government defines bathing seasons and lifeguarded beaches for 2026
Through Ordinance no. 206/2026, published in the Official Journal of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, the Regional Government has established the regulations for the 2026 bathing season. The decree identifies coastal bathing waters, defines the duration of the season for each area, and qualifies the beaches where lifeguard presence will be ensured.
The detailed list, covering all municipalities in the Region, includes the following locations and respective dates:
- Calheta: Calheta (29/06 to 30/09), Portinho (15/06 to 15/09), Porto (15/06 to 15/09), Ribeira das Galinhas (15/06 to 15/09), Serra de Água (01/07 to 01/10).
- Câmara de Lobos: Complexo Balnear das Salinas (01/06 to 06/09), Fajã das Bebras (01/05 to 27/09), Fajã dos Asnos (01/05 to 27/09), Vigário (01/05 to 27/09).
- Funchal: Areeiro (01/06 to 30/09), Barreirinha (01/06 to 15/09), Clube Naval do Funchal (15/06 to 20/09), Complexo Balnear Ponta Gorda - Poças do Governador (01/06 to 15/09), Formosa (01/06 to 15/09), Gorgulho (01/06 to 15/09), Lido - Complexo Balnear (01/06 to 15/09), Poças do Gomes - Doca do Cavacas (01/06 to 15/09), Praia Nova (01/06 to 15/09), Santiago (01/06 to 15/09), Lido Poente (01/06 to 15/09), Clube Turismo (15/06 to 15/09), Espinhaço Cliff Bay (01/06 to 30/09).
- Machico: Alagoa (08/06 to 27/09), Banda d'Além (16/06 to 27/09), Maiata (08/06 to 27/09), Prainha (30/06 to 27/09), Ribeira do Natal (16/06 to 27/09), S. Roque (26/06 to 27/09), Quinta do Lorde (01/06 to 30/09).
- Ponta do Sol: Anjos - Ponta do Sol (10/06 to 14/09), Lugar de Baixo (10/06 to 14/09), Madalena do Mar (10/06 to 14/09), Ponta do Sol (10/06 to 14/09).
- Porto Moniz: Clube Naval do Seixal (01/06 to 30/09), Laje (01/06 to 30/09), Porto do Seixal (01/06 to 30/09), Porto Moniz (15/04 to 15/10).
- Porto Santo: Porto Santo - Cabeço da Ponta (15/05 to 31/10), Porto Santo - Calheta (01/06 to 30/09), Porto Santo - Fontinha (15/05 to 31/10), Porto Santo - Lagoa (01/06 to 30/09), Porto Santo - Pedras Pretas (01/06 to 30/09), Porto Santo - Penedo (01/06 to 30/09), Porto Santo - Porto das Salemas (01/06 to 30/09), Porto Santo - Ribeiro Cochino (01/06 to 30/09), Porto Santo - Ribeiro Salgado (01/05 to 31/10).

- S. Vicente: Clube Naval de São Vicente (01/06 to 30/09), Ponta Delgada (01/06 to 30/09).

- Santana: Ribeira do Faial (26/06 to 27/09).
The decree also identifies beaches with limited use, namely: Prainha, Ribeira do Natal, Anjos - Ponta do Sol, Lugar de Baixo, Madalena do Mar, Porto Santo - Calheta, Calhau da Lapa, and Garajau.
