Regional Government restructures Civil Protection Service to boost operational capacity
The Regional Government of Madeira, through Ordinance no. 212/2026 of May 18, has carried out a deep organic restructuring of the Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC, IP-RAM). This reform aims to provide the institute with greater robustness in the face of the Region's insularity, rugged terrain, and exposure to extreme weather phenomena.
Main Structural Changes
- Creation of the Directorate for Planning, Operations and Information (DPOI): This new unit assumes the coordination of the Integrated Protection and Relief Operations System, centralizing the management of operations and strategic information.
- Creation of the Directorate for Resource Administration Services (DSAR): Focused on optimizing administrative, technological, and human resources management, this directorate ensures the application of SIADAP and the management of projects funded by community funds.
- Division of Information and Communication Systems (DSIC): Created to ensure the reliability of emergency communications, including the regional management of SIRESP and the Strategic Civil Protection Network (REPC).
The restructuring also introduces several situational support units, such as the Lessons Learned Cell, the International Relations Cell, and the Decision Support Center - Integrated Risk Analysis, aiming for a more agile and technically grounded response to disasters. The diploma enters into force the day after its publication.
